Gueroult, the author of the verses. 2nd. edition, identical to the first edition of 1564. : Rouillé first commissioned a set of O.T. blocks, designed by Pierre Eskrich [= Pierre Vase] (after Bernard Salomon's illustrations for the De Tournes 'Quadrins historique de la Bible' 1553, which first appeared in his 1562 folio Bible. Ad 2) Baudrier IX, 287 (and comp. 333) : Brunet II, 1255 : Harvard I, 93 : First edition. The New Testament cuts accompanied by verses of Ch. Pontoux : In both vols. the verses are printed in italic type and the woodcuts are attributed to P. Eskrich (Thieme/Becker XI, 31/2). In the first volume 18 woodcuts are full page and 251 half page. The O.T. set was first used in Rouillé's 'Biblia Sacra' of 1562, the N.T. set was introduced in a Latin Bible in 1569, but this is the first use of the blocks with verse text. Eskrich was well acquainted with series of blocks by Bernard Salomon on the same subjects, which is clear in this O.T. set . The N.T. blocks show more original features, apart from the Apocalypse. We find signatures on the blocks on lf. K8recto of the O.T. (signed 'C.S.' and the signature 'MONI' (according to Papillon, Eskrich) on leaf Ii6 recto, and 'IM' on KK5r of the N.T. Guéroult's Italian counterpart, G. Simeoni's 'Figure de la Biblia' has the same Eskrich blocks. See also the Otto Schäfer coll. part III, nr.30 (NY Oct. 1995).
