Took his degree in medicine at Leiden in 1757. 'He then settled at Sommelsdijk, but moved to The Hague in 1760, where he soon had a large practice. ... published some good treatises, for instance: 'Historia constitutionis...'...': Van der Aa, B, p. 311: NNBW vol. IV, 240: BMN vol. I, p. 230: Van den Bosch was well known for his observations made on the Dutch islands of Overflakkee and Goedereede regarding billious fevers, diarrhoea and other symptoms which he believed to be due to worm infections. This book published in 1769 [reprinted 10 years later in Nurnberg by Ackermann, 1779] was one of the most important contributions to the then ongoing discussion of "worm fevers".: The brochure offered here, published about two years after van den Bosch's death [in 1788], is an attempt to raise money by subscription based on the promising qualities of a remedy discovered and tested by Van den Bosch, against the dreaded 'kinderpokjes' or smallpox. In this brochure many people testify in writing to the healing power of powder d. no. 4. In case of sufficient funds being raised, the subscribers will receive a printed version of the remedy, the manuscript version of which was found among van den Bosch's papers after his death. [Probably his 'Verhandeling over den waren aard der kinderpokjes', which appeared in Rotterdam 1791??]. Page 10, line 9 entered in ink the date '30 september' [1790] indicating the end of the subscription term. Van der Aa, B, p. 311: According to van der Aa van den Bosch could not bring himself to entrusting his remedy to paper. Although many men testified to the power of the remedy, among whom Baster, de Man, de Bois Hoolewerff etc, it was Johannes Florentinus Martinet who pursuaded him to write down the formula for the description and put it in his desk, under lock and key and sealed. A very good copy of this rare fundraising scheme.
